I am a 1965 graduate of Goshen College, Goshen, Indiana, and a 1967 graduate of Michigan State University with a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW). After working two years at Blue Water Mental Health Clinic in Port Huron, Michigan, our family moved to Wadsworth, Ohio. I began working at the Tri-County Guidance Clinic in Wooster, Ohio, in 1969. In January of 1970, Medina County began its own mental health services, which became known as the Family Guidance Clinic. I was the first staff person employed there. Several years later, a branch office of the Family Guidance Clinic was opened in Wadsworth, and I was the sole staff member of that office for a number of years. That organization later became known as Community Mental Health Services and is now Northland Counseling Services.

During my years with Community Mental Health Services, I supervised graduate students from Case Western Reserve School of Social Work.

In 1978, I resigned my position as Director of Social Work with Community Mental Health Services of Medina County to work full time in my own private practice in the Wadsworth community, providing individual, marital and family therapy.

During the years since 1978, I was one of the primary persons involved in the development of Medina County's Hospice program. I provided consultation to Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital and Catholic Social Services, and under the financial sponsorship of First Mennonite Church, I began offering "Systematic Training for Effective Parenting" (STEP) to teachers and parents of the Wadsworth elementary schools. I was instrumental in the development of Trease Road Child Care Center, served as first Board President (1982) and in 2000 once again became Board President after having been off the board for many years.

I am a member of First Mennonite Church, Wadsworth, where I was choir director for twenty years. I have been married for forty-four years and have two adult children, a daughter-in-law, and one grandchild.

I am licensed by the State of Ohio at the level of Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), and a member of the National Association of Social Work (NASW) and the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW).
